I filed a Chapter 7 a few years ago, when can I file again?

You can file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy once every 8 years. If you have already received a discharge in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, you must wait eight years from the date you filed the previous case (not the date you received your bankruptcy discharged or your case was closed) before you can file another Chapter 7 and receive a discharge.

If 8 years have not yet passed and you are experiencing financial difficulties, there are still bankruptcy options available to you. You may be eligible to file a Chapter 13 bankruptcy and catch up on missed mortgage or car loan payments and help pay off certain debts in a Chapter 13 repayment plan.
